CAT

When translating we use CAT tools. CAT is short for Computer-Aided Translation, in other words, translating using special software. These are database programs for professional translators, not automatic translators.

Translation memory: if sentences are repeated in a text that is being translated (exactly or with slight variations), the CAT program recognises them and offers the translator the previously translated version of this sentence. This speeds up the translation process and makes it cheaper. A substantially lower price is charged for repeated sentences.

Terminology database: the program ensures terminological uniformity, especially for large or longer-term projects (even when there are multiple translators working on the same job).
